Former One Direction member, Liam Payne, took my dreams of a boyband reunion and turned them into a dumpster fire this week in a candid interview with fellow menace to society, Logan Paul.
In the latter’s podcast, Impaulsive with Logan Paul, Liam openly discussed matters of the band, using a tone of “my career is flopping so time to stir up some drama.”
Giving his opinion on his former One Direction bandmate, Zayn Malik, he said, “There’s many reasons why I dislike Zayn, and there’s many reasons why I’ll always, always be on his side… I can’t commend some of the things that he’s done. I can’t be on his side for that. What I can say is, I understand, and your only hope is that at some point in their life, the person on the other end of the phone wants to receive the help that you’re willing to give them.”
After people wondered, in response, what he has to offer Zayn or why he bothered to speak about him in the first place, Liam took to Twitter to clarify his comments:
Fans were also surprised to hear Liam share that there was more tension going on behind-the-scenes than met the public eye.
Describing his other bandmates as “rowdy,” he focused on one member in particular, Louis Tomlinson, saying, “He’s my best mate now but in the band, we hated each other. Like, to come to blows hated each other. It was close.”
When pressed further if he and his bandmates had ever actually gotten into physical altercations, Liam admitted they came really close at points, saying, “I think it was well known within the band that I don’t like talking shit. At a certain point, I made it very obvious. I’m not going to tell you how.”
He then proceeded to tell us how: “There was one moment where there was an argument backstage and one member in particular threw me up a wall. So, I said to him, ‘If you don’t remove those hands, there’s a high likelihood you’ll never use them again.’”
I understand Liam was using this moment to try and make himself look like the big bad wolf of One Direction, but all I can think is, “What is the tea… the girls are fighting!”
And, as it wouldn’t be a clickbait media move without taking one final jab at all of the members in general, Liam also claimed that Simon Cowell told him the band was, in fact, built around him: “He kinda started with my face and then worked around the rest. I’ve never told that story before… I was the honorary member of One Direction.”
To which, everyone responded:
There’s too much drama to unpack here, so if we ever do get a One Direction reunion, it may just have to be a sit-down interview hosted by Andy Cohen (or, preferably, me.)
Packing Every Fancy Thing I Own Because What If I Get Invited To The Queen’s Jubilee?
Meghan Markle and The Harry Formerly Known As Prince are in the U.K. this weekend for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
The occasion, which honors 70 years of Queen Elizabeth II on the royal throne, also marks the couple’s first visit with their two children, Archie and Lilibet, since resigning as working members of the royal family.
Making their first public appearance at the celebration weekend, Meghan and Harry were in attendance at the National Service of Thanksgiving at St. Paul’s Cathedral in London on Friday. For those of you wondering, this is an actual church service in recognition of a lifetime of public service contributions from the Queen - not, as I assumed, a summertime Thanksgiving brunch.
For reasons unknown to me, Kim Kardashian and Pete Davidson are also in the U.K. for the Queen’s Jubilee, and they’ve been using this trip to publicly debut their newly-coordinated bleached hair.
Kim shared the transformation on her Instagram earlier this week, but devoted readers will remember she bleached her hair weeks ago for the Met Gala - so, really, this was probably just Pete running out of tattoo ideas and being like, “Yeah, sure, why not?”
Love Is In The Air: Celebrity Edition
Zendaya shared a birthday post for boyfriend, Tom Holland, on Wednesday, writing, “Happiest of birthdays to the one who makes me the happiest <3”… Long live the Spider-Man on-screen-to-real-life-couple pipeline.
Bleachers frontman, Jack Antonoff, and actress, Margaret Qualley, are engaged, confirming the news in a post to her Instagram captioned, “Oh I love him!”
Harry Styles performed at a wedding in California recently, and I simply cannot envision getting married only for Harry Styles to show up immediately after the fact. That is what people in the business called grounds for annulment. So what if I just declared my love and devotion to you in front of all these people? That was before Harry showed up in a tuxedo and started singing “Sign of the Times,” keep up.
Are You Still Watching?
Netflix announced this week that the company will stop green-lighting “expensive vanity projects,” like Martin Scorcese’s The Irishman, and instead re-direct the focus of their feature film division to a new mandate of “bigger, fewer, and better” projects.
According to a source, the days of “[doing] anything to attract talent and giving them carte blanche” are over, amid a decline in the company’s subscriber growth and an increase in competition from other streaming services.
Considering I can never find anything to watch on Netflix and all of the films in their “New Release” category are ones that I saw in theaters two decades ago while in a booster seat, this move is probably for the best.
That’s all for me this week! I will most likely be re-watching the new season of Stranger Things and listening to “Running Up That Hill” by Kate Bush on repeat.
